Dear Friends of Milborne Port – how good it is to see the green shoots of new growth starting to appear around our villages; the promise of a new season, new life, warmth (we hope !) and growth. And for many of us who struggle through the dark winter days, the longer days we can look forward to and see hints of now, are an added blessing.
2015 is for the UK a year of election and we may or may not be looking forward to the General Election in a couple of months. Are you ready for the political bombardment that is starting to be unleashed on us ?; with all those marvellous promises of a better life under one political party from another ? – perhaps you just don’t get overly bothered by it all!
The Bible tells us something quite contrary to the earthly scrabble for change, God says:
‘I the LORD do not change’ – that is from Malachi 3v6, the last book in the Old Testament. Does that make the God boring or a sure foundation on which to build our lives? The politicians are going to do all they can to make you live according to the policies they dream up, to out-do the other political parties. God does not have to do that because the bible also tells us:
‘‘All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures for ever.’ God’s manifesto!
I am grateful that God’s Word will be here for my children children’s, children – and then some! It is unchanging and it is life giving – within it we see the new shoots of life and growth, everyday. Have you ever known that new growth not to come each year? – that’s because God does not change!
