We are now into the period known as Lent – Lent is the period of six weeks, 40 days (not including Sundays) leading up to Easter, the most important festival in the Christian calendar.
Lent starts on Ash Wednesday in western Christian Churches and climaxes on Easter Sunday. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, starting 30th March..
During the 40 days of Lent, we remember the time when Jesus went into the desert to fast and pray before beginning his ministry. During this time Jesus was tempted several times by Satan, but was able to resist.
Fasting – A time of denying self or more commonly a time of giving things up during this period of Lent. For us, it is one way of remembering the time Jesus’ fasted in the desert and it can be a test of self-discipline. But most importantly, Lent is a time of preparation for Easter, as we remember the death, the burial and the resurrection of Jesus. Perhaps this year, instead of just ‘giving up something’ – do something new! – be a regular at the prayer meeting, offer to lead your house group, make a cake a week for someone who would really value it in our fellowship – do some painting at church! – tell one new person each week the Good News of Jesus. Imagine the added dimension that will bring to Easter Day this year!

Also, we will learn how through Him we can overcome the challenges of our daily lives. This month, we look at Overcoming Anxiety and Frustration, Discontentment, Thankfulness, Overcoming our Pride. Be inspired by God’s Word to us – He knows our challenges, He knows our weaknesses; it is why sometimes we sing: For this I have Jesus…….
